What Sets Our Christ-Centered Recovery Program Apart
Long-Term Residential Christian Recovery Program
Our Recovery Path
Residential Program
Freedom House offers a long-term, Christ-centered residential program where mothers can recover from addiction while remaining with their young children. Unlike short-term treatment centers, our program spans 9 to 12 months and is structured to support each woman through a four-phase recovery journey that addresses the root causes of addiction and prepares them for life beyond treatment.
Each resident receives a personalized treatment plan that includes individual and group therapy, recovery classes, and life-skills development. Our curriculum combines the 12-step model with essential teaching on emotional health, parenting, financial literacy, relationships, nutrition, and spiritual growth. As women progress through the program, they also receive support for medical, dental, and legal appointments, along with transportation to Celebrate Recovery and other enrichment activities.
A key part of our model is the belief that children belong in the recovery process. Moms learn to rebuild their families while practicing simple but powerful habits like preparing family meals, creating bedtime routines, and reconnecting with their children in healthy, meaningful ways. We partner with local daycare centers and schools to ensure every child receives care and support while their mother heals.
In addition to therapy and spiritual development, residents gain real-world job training by working at our thrift stores or farm. These employment opportunities not only build confidence but also equip women with practical skills and experience that lead to meaningful work after graduation.
By the time they complete the program, women have not only found freedom from addiction, they’ve gained the tools, structure, and faith foundation they need to lead their families with strength and purpose.

Aftercare Program
Recovery doesn’t end at graduation, and at Freedom House, neither does our support.
Our Aftercare Program is designed to help mothers transition from structured recovery into full independence, without losing the community and accountability that helped them heal. Graduates can live in one of our aftercare homes for up to 12 months, rent-free, giving them time to save money, establish routines, and stabilize their families in a safe, familiar environment.
Each woman in aftercare continues to receive personal support from staff and mentors, attends evening recovery groups, and stays connected to the Freedom House community through regular check-ins and events. This ongoing structure provides the consistency and encouragement women need as they begin working, parenting, and managing life on their own.
The program includes help securing long-term housing, transportation, and employment, along with guidance in budgeting, goal-setting, and building a sustainable future. Many graduates eventually become mentors for new residents, offering hope and firsthand wisdom to women just starting their recovery journey.
Our aftercare model works. While national relapse rates average between 40–60%, nearly 90% of Freedom House graduates remain sober one year after completing the program. These families are stepping into a new legacy, one built on redemption, hope, and generational change.

FAQs
Freedom House is a 9-12 month recovery program for women and children located in Greensboro, North Carolina. We offer comprehensive, holistic services, in a Christ-centered, family environment. Freedom House was established in 2006 to meet a desperate need to provide for the physical, mental, and spiritual demands of families seeking recovery. Freedom House is a Christian 12-step program. For one year, we provide structure, housing, transportation, substance abuse counseling, and life-skills training for women and their children who are willing to fight for a brighter future. In addition, we offer assistance and support for graduates through our Aftercare Program to ensure our families maintain their sobriety for years after treatment.
Freedom House was founded with children in mind! We know that further separation of a mother and child can cause additional trauma to a family and that a mother responds better to treatment if her children are present. We work closely with each family to ensure the best plan of treatment for each mother and her family. If possible, we encourage children to live with their mothers at Freedom House while she is in treatment. Each mother can bring up to two children with her into Freedom House. Children must be under the age of eleven to live with their mothers in our residential program. However, children exceeding this age limit will be able to visit with their mothers during visitation hours.
Freedom House is one of very few nonprofit organizations nationwide that offers a Christ-centered, long-term residential program that allows mothers and children to stay together, at no cost to their families. We are a Christ-centered program focused on helping families overcome the spiritual poverty of addiction so they can live the lives God intended for them. The Freedom House program is intensive and holistic. Each mother has a tailored recovery plan to fit their specific recovery needs. All mothers focus on health through nutrition and exercise plans, spiritual and emotional needs through individualized and group counseling, and go through daily personal and group studies, some of which include job training, codependency, anger and financial management, and parenting.
There are three steps to our application process. The first step is for a potential resident to fully complete our application. Upon submitting the application, one of our employees will contact you within two business days to follow up with you. The second step is to work with our Program Manager to submit all required documents and complete any necessary forms. Finally, we require all applicants to meet with a Freedom House employee for a screening either by phone, Skype, or in person. At this time, if it is determined that we can adequately meet your needs at Freedom House, you will be given an admission date.
Prior to entry, there is a one-time admission fee currently priced at $750.Once a woman enters our program with her children, all living expenses including meals, utilities, transportation, rooming, curriculum, therapy, necessary personal care items, etc are all included for no cost for the duration of their stay, up to one year. When the woman graduates, she can live rent free in our after care home while she gets a job and begins to save for a place of her own.The expenses not covered are prescription medications.
This fee is kept low-cost to make our program as accessible as possible to a woman who is in need. If this fee is a financial hardship, please contact us. We never want cost to be a reason someone can’t access help.
The residential program serves females between 21 and 50 years old. They must have the ability to lift 30lbs; cannot be in a currently active addiction; and they cannot have a criminal history with violent assault charges or sex offenders.
