What’s Included in Our Free Long-Term Recovery for Mothers
Freedom House offers a long-term, Christian residential program where mothers can recover from addiction without being separated from their children. Over the course of 9-12 months, each woman moves through four levels of care that addresses the root cause of addiction and prepares her for lasting change.
Each resident receives a custom treatment plan with individual therapy, group therapy, recovery classes, and life-skills development.
Through daily Bible study, worship, and mentorship, women build a strong foundation of faith and find freedom in Christ.
Mothers remain with their children throughout the program and receive guidance on parenting, routines, and healthy family rhythms.
Hands-on work experience at our thrift stores and farm prepares women for employment and helps restore confidence and purpose.
Teaching covers emotional health, budgeting, nutrition, relationships, and daily responsibilities needed for independent living.
We provide rides to appointments, Celebrate Recovery, and more—plus optional aftercare housing and mentorship after graduation.

Freedom House is a 9-12 month recovery program for women and children located in Greensboro, North Carolina. We offer comprehensive, holistic services, in a Christ-centered, family environment. Freedom House was established in 2006 to meet a desperate need to provide for the physical, mental, and spiritual demands of families seeking recovery. Freedom House is a Christian 12-step program. For one year, we provide structure, housing, transportation, substance abuse counseling, and life-skills training for women and their children who are willing to fight for a brighter future. In addition, we offer assistance and support for graduates through our Aftercare Program to ensure our families maintain their sobriety for years after treatment.
Freedom House was founded with children in mind! We know that further separation of a mother and child can cause additional trauma to a family and that a mother responds better to treatment if her children are present. We work closely with each family to ensure the best plan of treatment for each mother and her family. If possible, we encourage children to live with their mothers at Freedom House while she is in treatment. Each mother can bring up to two children with her into Freedom House. Children must be under the age of eleven to live with their mothers in our residential program. However, children exceeding this age limit will be able to visit with their mothers during visitation hours.
Freedom House is one of very few nonprofit organizations nationwide that offers a Christ-centered, long-term residential program that allows mothers and children to stay together, at no cost to their families. We are a Christ-centered program focused on helping families overcome the spiritual poverty of addiction so they can live the lives God intended for them. The Freedom House program is intensive and holistic. Each mother has a tailored recovery plan to fit their specific recovery needs. All mothers focus on health through nutrition and exercise plans, spiritual and emotional needs through individualized and group counseling, and go through daily personal and group studies, some of which include job training, codependency, anger and financial management, and parenting.
There are three steps to our application process. The first step is for a potential resident to fully complete our application. Upon submitting the application, one of our employees will contact you within two business days to follow up with you. The second step is to work with our Program Manager to submit all required documents and complete any necessary forms. Finally, we require all applicants to meet with a Freedom House employee for a screening either by phone, Skype, or in person. At this time, if it is determined that we can adequately meet your needs at Freedom House, you will be given an admission date.
Prior to entry, there is a one-time admission fee currently priced at $750.Once a woman enters our program with her children, all living expenses including meals, utilities, transportation, rooming, curriculum, therapy, necessary personal care items, etc are all included for no cost for the duration of their stay, up to one year. When the woman graduates, she can live rent free in our after care home while she gets a job and begins to save for a place of her own.The expenses not covered are prescription medications.
This fee is kept low-cost to make our program as accessible as possible to a woman who is in need. If this fee is a financial hardship, please contact us. We never want cost to be a reason someone can’t access help.
The residential program serves females between 21 and 50 years old. They must have the ability to lift 30lbs; cannot be in a currently active addiction; and they cannot have a criminal history with violent assault charges or sex offenders.
